Label Whores and Designer Sluts

Being in college is no different than being in high school with the trends that come and go.  From boots to tights and leggings, it will never go away.  Why are we such label whores in such a terrible way?  Okay, I have to admit, I enjoy the top labels and quality, but are these essential to my personal style? Not exactly.

From every sorority girl with their uniform of Coach bag or clutch, Ugg Australia boots paired with black leggings, why are labels such as these "trendy" among groups.  Having Coach doesn't set these girls apart from any other girl.  Besides, I'll own up to my own wallet that has the monogram stitched right in.  I love nice things, but I think many seriously purchase or have daddy purchase to create the feeling of belonging to a group.  That is why we shopped at Hollister Co. in middle and high school, right?  Right?

Let me add something else to this subject.  I'm at a bar and there were guys getting the labels of the underwear other guys wore.  Oh, the mighty snobby gays.  They were dismayed when one did not wear a label that matched Emporio Armani.  I'll take my H&M underwear, thank you.  People like this are often confused with what is fashionable.  The labels don't make you look good, the way you put it all together does.  They can take their jeans that were too tight and continue dressing in the dark.  People struggle with a sense of how to put items together and to make clothes a fashionable look.  Everyone doesn't have to dress alike and I do urge everyone to put their own personality in their clothes, but the way you dress really can define who you are and what your personality is like.

Have fun and enjoy clothes.  Express yourself.  Labels aren't everything. Show a sign of confidence in whatever you wear.

  1. My friends are all designer whores. They invest their hard earned money in Michael Kors,Coach, Emporio Armani, Louie Vuitton, kate Spade, and a lot more. I turn green with envy everytime we go out somewhere and I am only waering a purse I bought at Sears. I feel like I am so poor compared to them. They are wearing designer brands from the heat to foot. What I find it amusing is that I can afford to pay our bill at a sit down restaurant while they would prefer to split the bill among us. What the hell is wrong with my girlfriends, I ask myself. Here I am wearing a Walmart shirt and jeans and they are all wearing top designer brands from Macy's and cannot afford a ticket to a Tim McGraw concert? I don't care if my purse costs 20 bucks and my jeans 12 bucks in Walmart. Does it have to be Good Religion or Levi's? What's the difference? Will it make me more better person, smarter, prettier? Designer brand purses are too tacky. IT makes me look like a walking billboard. Who cares if you look like a big shot toting designer purse in your hand. You might as well show it off because it costed you 500 bucks. Who the hell cares?
